Dental Crowns, Implants, & Bridges – Portland, Maine Restorative Dentistry
Restorative dentistry refers to the restoration of natural teeth that have been damaged, decayed or lost.
Once your teeth have been examined and your dental and medical history have been evaluated by Dr. Nelson, we will be ready to provide diagnosis and treatment options.
Your treatment options may include some of the following:
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can restore the appearance of your teeth and face and will be the same size and shape as the natural tooth. Your jaw and bite will be aligned, and it will ensure that other teeth don’t shift or take on a greater share of the work of biting and chewing. Dr. Nelson uses crowns made of gold or porcelain due to their strength and durability.
At A Perfect Smile, we will discuss the types of materials available if we recommend a crown. You must care for a crown as you would your natural teeth. Regular brushing and flossing will ensure that your crown will be in place for years to come!
Implant Restorations
Dental implants are an ideal option for patients with good general oral health. Implants look and feel like your own teeth and can last a lifetime if given the proper placement and maintenance. Adjacent teeth do not have to be altered to support an implant, and they are integrated into the structure of your bone, preventing gum recession and possible bone loss.
Proper oral hygiene is especially important with dental implants. Dr. Nelson recommends visiting our office at least twice a year to ensure the health of your teeth and implants. Dental implants can last for decades when given proper care.
Tooth–Colored Fillings
Dr. Nelson can replace old amalgam/metal fillings that contain traces of mercury with white fillings (composite) to restore your smile and teeth to a more natural look and feel. Today’s advancements allow us to improve the appearance of unsightly fillings with new–age, state–of–the–art, tooth–colored resin or porcelain materials.
These fillings bond to the tooth and strengthen it by restoring most of its original shape. Hot and cold sensitivity is greatly reduced and these new fillings require less removal of the tooth and less structure to place than those with amalgams and especially with new cavities.
Our patients are thrilled with the new fillings Dr. Nelson can provide as they are more natural–looking and more comfortable.
Dental Bridges
Bridges are a dental device that fills the space that a tooth previously occupied. A bridge may be necessary to prevent shifting of the teeth that can lead to bite problems and/or jaw problems and resultant periodontal disease. Bridges also safeguard the integrity of existing teeth and help maintain a healthy, vibrant smile. Dr. Nelson uses porcelain–bonded bridges to help keep your smile looking as natural as possible.
